Microdermabrasion in Austin

Microdermabrasion is a fast, non-invasive procedure that gently resurfaces the skin. It can help improve the appearance of roughly textured skin, fine wrinkles, superficial scars, uneven pigmentation, and age spots. It may also be used to assist in the treatment of other skin conditions, such as acne.
Microdermabrasion is usually performed on the face and neck but can be performed on any part of the body. It can be used on all types of skin and complexions, including oily, dry, light, and dark skin. Microdermabrasion may be used alone or in combination with other procedures such as chemical peels.
The procedure usually needs to be performed multiple times to obtain satisfactory results. A typical regimen involves four to eight treatments, at intervals of one to three weeks, and our skin care specialists will recommend a regimen best suited for your needs.

What to Expect With it

Although considered a fairly painless procedure, some people with particularly sensitive skin may complain of mild irritation after the procedure. Aside from minimal redness, microdermabrasion does not have any serious known risks or side effects.

This treatment removes damaged skin by gently “sandblasting” the top layers of the skin with tiny crystals. It removes the outermost layer of skin (also known as exfoliation), exposing the newer skin cells below. This stimulates the growth of new skin cells, leading to more youthful-looking skin.

How Long Does it Take?

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) estimates that microdermabrasion takes 30–40 minutes for the face and 20 minutes for the neck. Afterward, there may be slight swelling or sunburn-like symptoms for a few days.

Is Microdermabrasion Permanent?

It may take 5-15 treatments to see reduced aging with microdermabrasion. It’s also not permanent, so talk to your Skin Care Provider about how often you need to get the treatment.

Microdermabrasion Vs. Dermabrasion

Microdermabrasion and dermabrasion are different. For starters, microdermabrasion is less invasive than dermabrasion. Dermabrasion uses more intensive methods to remove the top layer of skin. A Dermatologist may recommend dermabrasion for more severe acne scars, scars from accidents or surgery, or to remove tattoos.

Dermabrasion is also only really effective for patients with fair skin. However, microdermabrasion can be suitable for people with any skin color.
