Light Exfoliating Chemical Peels

Light Exfoliating Chemical Peels in Austin

Light exfoliating chemical peels are topically applied formulas that revitalize the skin’s surface by creating a controlled shedding of the outermost layer of the skin. This allows new layers to be exposed, creating a fresh appearance and smoother texture to the skin surface. The procedure is a fairly simple process. First, the face is cleaned, then the acid solution is brushed onto the face, allowed to take effect for a few minutes, then it’s washed off with a neutralizer (depending on the peel applied).

During your initial consultation with one of our Vitalogy Medical Spa Aestheticians, you’ll want to explain your skin care goals. They can discuss the advantages of various chemical peels with you and help determine the proper peel for your skin conditions and cosmetic goals. A chemical peel can improve sun damage, acne scarring, blotchy pigmentation, fine wrinkling, and early pre-cancerous skin lesions. A chemical face peel can also improve acne-prone skin and clogged pores.

Salicylic Acid Peels

Salicylic acid peels are one of the most common types of light chemical peels. This chemical solution is particularly good for oily skin. It breaks down cells at the skin’s surface and penetrates deep into the pores making it particularly good for treating acne. Please note that salicylic acid has some similar properties to aspirin. If you are allergic to aspirin, you should inform your Aesthetician before receiving this treatment.

Glycolic Acid Peels

Glycolic acid peels also penetrate into pores to help with unclogging them. By removing dead cells, the healthy cells are then exfoliated. This solution is often better for dry skin because it leaves the cells prepared to utilize moisturizing products. Though this peel typically brightens skin, it can occasionally darken skin depending on the existing tone and amount of usage.

Lactic Acid Peels

Lactic acid chemical peels are considered fairly mild for most skin types. These peels also remove the top layer of cells and reveal fresh healthy skin. This peel is often a good choice for those treating hyperpigmentation or age spots. It can also improve the appearance of keratosis pilaris, the small red bumps that appear on the backs of arms.

Determining the Right Chemical Peel for You

Light chemical peels are great for patients who are new to chemical peels. We provide lactic, glycolic, and salicylic chemical peels. During your consultation, your Skin Care Provider will determine the appropriate peel based on your particular skin conditions, concerns, and skin care goals. For maximum results, light peels should be done every two weeks in a series of six treatments. These peels can improve mild to moderate cases of acne, soften the look of fine lines and even out skin texture. Patients can expect minimal to no downtime.
