LET’S TALK LASERS

While Vitalogy Skincare offers various cosmetic treatments such as microdermabrasion, HydraFacial®, chemical peels, dermaplaning, and much more, laser treatments are always a very effective way to achieve different cosmetic goals. Always consult one of our Dermatology Providers to see what treatment will work best for you and your skin.

Basics You Need to Know About Lasers

Though you don’t need to know everything there is to know about cosmetic lasers, it doesn’t hurt to learn the basics before deciding on treatment. In addition, being informed helps you have a more productive consultation with your Dermatology Provider.

Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. What does that mean for you? Lasers use a focused beam of light that uses a precise color or wavelength to target a specific area of the skin while leaving the skin around it unharmed. These different wavelengths are absorbed by different targets in the skin, which are converted into heat energy when they hit the target. For example, blood absorbs yellow light wavelengths, which would be used for skin redness concerns. So, let’s look at some terms you might come across that relate to the type of laser used.

Ablative v. Non-ablative

Ablative lasers remove a thin layer of the outer skin (epidermis) while heating the underlying skin (dermis), stimulating collagen growth. As the epidermis heals, it regrows skin tissue that appears smoother and tighter. These treatments are considered more aggressive, leading to a longer recovery while your skin heals.

Non-ablative lasers heat the underlying skin tissue without harming the surface skin so that your body produces new collagen. This is a milder treatment than an ablative laser, leading to a faster recovery.

Fractionated v. Non-fractionated

A fractionated laser is a type of laser that can be ablative or non-ablative. It delivers microscopic columns of thermal damage throughout the tissue area. Fractionated lasers were developed for shorter recovery times and to reduce the risk of side effects since they only treat a “fraction” of the skin instead of the whole surface. Some lasers under this category include pulsed-dye lasers, erbium lasers, and light therapy lasers.

Non-fractionated lasers use a solid beam of laser energy to affect the entire targeted skin area. This makes them more aggressive than fractionated lasers, which are used for more severe issues such as deeper wrinkles, age spots, and scars.

CO2 Lasers – One of the first and highest-powered lasers that remove thin layers of skin with minimal heat damage to the surrounding tissue by using carbon dioxide gas.

Lasers Treatments We Offer at Vitalogy Skincare and What They Do

  • Laser Resurfacing: These treatments use laser beams at skin areas to remove layers of the skin and heat the treatment zone, promoting collagen production and revealing a more youthful, vibrant area. What can laser resurfacing do for you? It can treat fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, damage from the sun, uneven skin tone or texture, hyperpigmentation, and help with certain acne scars.
  • Laser Vein Treatment: When the veins are small and close to the skin’s surface, laser vein removal is often the most effective treatment. Some vessels may show visible disappearance immediately, while other destroyed vessels’ responses may be less visible or lighter in appearance.
  • Laser Hair Removal: Laser hair removal is a safe, effective, and convenient alternative to other methods, including shaving, waxing, plucking, or electrolysis. Multiple treatments are usually needed to remove hair from any particular area.

INJECTABLES ON SPECIAL

Wrinkle Relaxers

As we age, our skin is usually the first to show signs of aging. Cosmetic injections can freshen your appearance and minimize or eliminate signs of aging, stress, or genetics. You can prevent and reduce the effect of wrinkles with cosmetic injections. During a consultation with one of our Dermatology Providers, we will help you determine which product best achieves the desired results. Vitalogy Skincare offers a variety of cosmetic injections to help you achieve healthy, beautiful skin:

BOTOX® COSMETIC

FDA-approved as a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles and frown lines. Most commonly used for frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet, these take only a few minutes and give you a youthful appearance with minimal discomfort and downtime.

DYSPORT®

A prescription injection that helps temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines).

XEOMIN®

A prescription medication injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines).

Fillers

Dermal fillers, also known as soft tissue fillers, are FDA-approved medical products used to create a smoother and fuller appearance to the skin and structures of the face. As we age, it is natural for our skin to start showing some changes as we lose some of the subcutaneous fat that supports our skin. Our skin also starts losing elasticity, allowing wrinkles to show on our faces. Injecting these fillers under the skin allows the lines and wrinkles to smooth out, while others can create structure on cheeks and chins. The most popular face areas to have dermal fillers are the nasolabial folds (the lines extending from the sides of the nose to the edges of the mouth), cheeks, chin, and lips. Fillers have also been FDA-approved for other body areas, including the tops of the hands and recessed scars.

There are several dermal fillers to choose from, with the two most popular brands being Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®. We also offer RADIESSE® and Sculptra® injectables. Within each of these filler families, there are several subtypes that allow Dermatology Providers to customize treatments.
