Before ever picking up a dermatoscope, Dr. Laura Upton was a 12x World and Reserve World Champion equestrian athlete and a 3x NCAA National Champion at the University of Georgia. She brings the same discipline, precision, and heart that made her one of the most decorated riders in her sport to the care of every patient she sees. 

Dr. Upton earned her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, where she graduated with honors distinctions across her clinical training, including in dermatology. She completed her dermatology residency at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, and is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology. 

Dr. Upton is a medical dermatologist who cares for patients of all ages and skin types. Her practice focuses on inflammatory and complex skin disease, including psoriasis, acne, hidradenitis suppurativa, and autoimmune skin conditions, as well as skin cancer prevention and treatment. Her approach is grounded in careful diagnosis and individualized care: the right treatment starts with the right diagnosis. 

An active contributor to her field, Dr. Upton has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented her research at national meetings of the American Academy of Dermatology, with scholarly work spanning autoimmune skin disease and emerging therapies, skin cancer and immunotherapy, and the thoughtful use of new technology — including artificial intelligence — to improve patient education. She is also committed to physician advocacy at the state and national levels and to health policy work that protects patients’ access to high-quality dermatologic care. 

Outside the clinic, Dr. Upton is happiest in the saddle. She and her husband — also a physician — share a love of horses, world travel, skiing, mountain biking, and long hikes with their German Shepherd. A firm believer that medicine is a team sport, Dr. Upton is delighted to join the Vitalogy Skincare team, proud to care for the Cedar Park and Georgetown communities, and happy to call Central Texas home.
